Dr Akhtar Nazir
Science Talent Farming Scheme (STFS) is a fully Government funded project meant to achieve knowledge based economy through capacity building of the youth, having aptitude towards science education.
The project is meant for selection of 300 talented students each year from all over Pakistan from government schools, support and groom these less privileged science students and transform them into productive scientists by supporting them to the highest degrees (up to Ph.D) in various scientific disciplines.
Simultaneously, state of the art “National Science School” will be established, which will be able to accommodate 1500 students, with starting intake of 300 students from grade-8, to provide free high quality education with boarding facilities for deserving talented students from Government schools of Pakistan, purely on merit.
We at Ministry of S&T, are committed to promote and popularize science among the masses especially our young generation. The need for promotion and popularization of science and technology for economic growth and for improving the quality of life of a nation can never be denied. The aim of scientific and technological development leading to economic self-reliance cannot be met if the society does not realize the importance of science and technology.
In Science Talent Farming Scheme (STFS), we have made all the possible efforts to make science education interesting and attractive for students. The activities also include Research project development by the STFS students with the support from University Professors, coaching & mentoring by college lecturers, visits to S&T organizations, motivational lectures and presentations are only some of the activities of the STFS project. In addition to STFS, our Ministry is going to initiate some further programs for strengthening of science labs of high schools.
I am happy that Pakistan Science Foundation under the umbrella of Ministry of Science & Technology is striving for exploitation and assimilation of scientific and technical developments among the masses through its programs, like STFS.
I wish you the best of luck for your future.
